Welcome, I’m Deb

My work as a therapist is to support and empower people, helping
them build or rebuild their sense of self, develop healthier coping
mechanisms and foster stronger connections.
Regarding my therapeutic approach, my outlook is compassionate –
guided by respect, confidentiality and trust. I specialise in helping
individuals who have experienced difficult situations such as grief
and loss, issues with self-esteem, relationship challenges, as well as
anxiety and depression. I have considerable experience working with
young people facing personal challenges and families navigating
complex dynamics including working with expats, helping them to
feel supported as they navigate issues of identity,
belonging and transition.
As a counsellor I have gained wide-ranging experience working with
both individuals and families from many different backgrounds. I
understand that your history and life experiences are unique to you
and am here to assist with whatever you need to unpack or seek help
with, in a safe non-judgemental space.
Having completed formal training in the UK and Australia
I bring a wealth of experience. I hold a Masters degree in Clinical
Counselling as well as post-graduate qualifications in Trauma
Counselling and the Hakomi Foundation. I am currently studying
for a postgraduate qualification in Clinical Supervision.
I look forward to meeting you.

FAQS
Is therapy for me?

Navigating the challenges and complexities of life can be difficult and many people have to manage tough experiences that they need to heal from. Talking to someone who is not a friend or family member can be extremely beneficial.
What happens in the first session?

You and I will talk to determine whether we both feel that we could work well together. We will discuss your reasons for exploring counselling and talk over any concerns that you may have. If at the close we decide to continue then we will arrange a further session.
How long are the sessions and how often?

Each appointment will run for 50 minutes. I recommend that sessions take place weekly and at the same time each week.
What are your qualifications?

I hold a Masters Degree in Clinical Counselling and postgraduate qualifications in Trauma Counselling and am currently studying for a postgraduate certificate in Clinical Supervision. I am registered and accredited in the UK with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and in Australia with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). Both organisations have a strong Code of Ethics which I am obligated to adhere to.
What about confidentiality?

Counsellors are legally required to maintain confidentiality for clients. However, there are certain situations in which confidentiality will need to be broken: disclosure or evidence of physical, sexual, or emotional abuse or neglect. As a counsellor, I am a Mandatory Reporter which means that any abuse of children under the age of 16 years must be reported to the correct authorities.
How do I choose a counsellor?

Some questions for you to ask -
Are they qualified?
Are they aligned with a professional body such as the BACP or PACFA?
Do you feel comfortable with them?
Do you feel as though you could trust them?
Would you recommend them to a friend?
In your search for a therapist, be clear about the type of person that you want to invest your time (and money) in. There are no hard and fast rules. The therapeutic relationship like all relationships takes time to build
